Blankets for Babies Project Expands For several years, Karen Bradley, President of Sassy Scrubs, from Penn Yan, New York, has been quietly making baby blankets to send to orphans in China. In addition to spending weekends in her sewing room, she has enlisted workers at her company, Sassy Scrubs, a manufacturer of custom made hospital uniforms, to sew baby blankets in their spare time. Her efforts caught the attention of Colorado adoption agency, CCAI, and the officials at China’s CCAA. Karen proudly announces that her Blankets for Babies Project has just been expanded! In a new partnership between Chinese Children Adoption International (CCAI) and the China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA), Karen’s Blankets for Babies Project has been accepted as an Official Project by the CCAA! The Chinese name for this project is “ai xin xiao mian tan” and roughly translates to “Little Blanket of Love”, an apt name for this project of the heart. Karen has sent over 4,300 blankets to Chinese orphanages already through her volunteer Blankets for Babies Project and the expansion of this project to Official Status will allow her to continue to assist the waiting and foster children of China’s orphanages. As Project Director, Karen accepted a challenge to provide 1,000 blankets to be received by CCAA by June 1, 2007, which was Children’s Day in China. Karen manufactured the blankets, on a volunteer basis, through her company Sassy Scrubs, and mailed the blankets to CCAA to be distributed in time for the holiday, all 1,757 of them! The ultimate goal for the project is to provide blankets for 10,000 children – quite a challenge! The Project needs your help to meet this challenge! Since it costs nearly $100 for every box of 60 blankets mailed from New York to China, funds are needed to get these warm blankets into the hands of China’s waiting children. Karen is working on negotiating a reduced fee through FedEx and airlines, but it is expected that costs will still be high. Any funds not used for the shipping costs will help Karen purchase more warm, soft fabric for more blankets.
